FAQ’s
How much does it cost and is Soprano XLmore expensive than other lasers?
The new technology of Soprano XL represents great value for money yet with no compromise on quality.
The cost usually works out less because less treatments are needed than most other types of laser meaning you get UNBEATABLE QUALITY, VALUE and LESS TREATMENTS = LESS COST FOR YOU.
The soprano XL is fast becoming the treatment of choice for permanent hair reduction all over the world and in fact laser hair removal is the most ‘wished for’ treatment thanks to its predictable efficacy.
Soprano XL is suitable for everyone alike, for all skin colours and for all areas of the face and body and for both men and women.
Can Soprano XL treat black and dark skin?
With the industry gold standard 810 diode laser and its unique patented high repetition rate and low fluence delivery system makes Soprano XL the safest laser available for all skin types.
Soprano XL is predictable both in terms of effective results and minimal risk of side effects, coupled with the comfortable delivery of the treatment make Soprano XL the only choice for black or dark skin types. Darker skins may require an extra treatment or so, compared to light skin.
How many treatments or sessions will be needed?
During a free consultation you will be assessed and advised about the number of treatments you may require, usually 6 to 8 sessions.
Body areas may require less treatments and facial areas may require more, depending on the individual. Dark or black skin may require more treatment sessions, again depending on the individual concerned.
Does the unwanted hair fall out right away?
The treated anagen hair usually drops out 2 to 3 weeks after treatment.
Will there be any redness or discomfort after treatment?
Side effects are rare and transient, minimal warmth or redness or none at all. If the skin is pink or red after treatment, this usually resolves within minutes or at most within a day or so.
Sensitive skin usually tolerates the Soprano XL treatment well with no side effects, however if redness occurs it is temporary and resolves quickly (varying with individuals).
All lasers present a risk of burning and blistering to the skin however with the Soprano XL these risks are reduced more than ever before possible with lasers.
The Soprano XL new patented technology allows for maximum efficiency and yet with more safety and less risk of side effects than ever before possible.
Can I wear make up on the treatment area?
Yes you can wear make up before your treatment, remove it in the clinic and reapply it straight after treatment if you wish.
How do I remove hair in-between laser hair removal treatments?
Shaving is the preferred method. Do not pluck or wax or electrolysis as this will compromise your treatment plan.
How often do I have treatment?
For the face we find that 4 – 6 weeks apart, or even 7-8 weeks when much of the hair is gone, gives the best results.
For the body, the hair is slower growing and usually 8 – 12 weeks apart works very well. The first couple of treatments may be 6 -8 weeks apart then progressively increasing to 9 – 12 weeks as the hair growth slows due to treatment.
What is anagen hair?
Hair grows in cycles called Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. The anagen hair is the active or growing hair which is attached to the blood supply in the follicle. The other 2 stages are shedding and resting. Only the anagen hair can be effectively, permanently destroyed during laser hair removal which is why having your treatments at certain intervals is required, in order to destroy the follicles entering the anagen stage.
How does Soprano XL work?
Light from the Soprano XL laser is delivered gently and safely to the hair root, being absorbed there, heating the root to 45c and damaging or destroying the base of the follicle and sealing the capillaries so that it can no longer produce more hair.
Do I need to prepare my skin for Soprano XL treatment?
Yes, it is extremely helpful if the area to be treated is shaved on the day or the day before. Make sure the skin is clean from creams, perfume and false tanning products. Make sure all false tan is completely washed off. Avoid using certain products such as retinoid cream and steroid creams on the area. Ask you dr. Labar about the products you are using.
By avoiding epilation and waxing 4 weeks before treatment it ensures as many follicles as possible contain a hair and thus can be destroyed by the light.
Avoid tanning or prolonged UV exposure on the area to be treated for at least 1 month prior to treatment (includes sunbeds). Avoid false tan before treatments as it will not was off in time for your session and you may be refused treatment.
Can blonde, red and even fine hair be treated?
Your hair will be assessed at a free consultation and a patch test may be given to determine the effect for your hair colour.
White hair can not be effectively removed with any laser and other colurs such as blonde and some red colours can prove difficult to treat with laser.
The new technology of the Soprano XL means that fine hair and hair colours that have proven unsuccessful with other lasers can respond to the Soprano XL so it is advisable to have a patch test.
Older lasers are less effective than Soprano XL mainly because they target the skin with high fluence (heat energy) causing burning and sometimes scarring, this is even more of a risk when treating light or fine hair.Unlike these older types of laser and IPL systems, the Soprano XL can deliver high energy (fluence)without excessively heating the surrounding skin.
Are large areas done in 1 session?
Yes usually. Speed, comfort and ease are a huge advantage of the soprano XL. Torso, back, arms, chest etc. takes about 60 minutes for each area
Who cannot have the treatments?
- Previous history of cancer, in particular skin cancer
- Pregnancy (including IVF)
- If you are on a photosensitive medication or herbal remedy/or taking blood thinners
- Prolonged exposure to the sun or artificial tanning 4 weeks before or after treatment
- Active Herpes Simplex (cold sores) in treatment area
- History of Keloid scarring (overproduction of scar tissue)
- Insulin Dependent Diabetes
- Very fragile or dry skin
- Epilepsy
Line & Wrinkle Treatments

Injectables & Dermal Fillers
The effects of time, gravity, and sun exposure can leave areas of the face wrinkled, creased, or sunken in appearance. If you are concerned about these signs of aging, injectable fillers may help rejuvenate your appearance. Clinic Labar offers a variety of non-surgical rejuvenation treatments which are the most popular procedures requested by our patients.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
As a minimally invasive alternative to a facelift and other plastic surgery options you may be able to benefit from BOTOX® Therapy. A BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is a fast, non-surgical procedure that smoothes deep, persistent facial lines with small injections that relax the muscles that are causing those lines without affecting adjacent healthy tissue. There is no recovery period – your results appear within days and can last for up to four months. Some patients express concern about not looking natural or losing their expression afterwards. Dr. Labar works with each individual to specifically target problem areas without freezing the whole face. Rather than employ a “cookie cutter approach” Dr. Labar’s philosophy is technique-sensitive. His patients are often amazed by how dramatic the changes can be from such a minimally invasive procedure. Dr. Labar will often use Botox® in conjunction with facial surgery to further augment your results. We frequently run specials and discounts for returning patients as a thank you for choosing us as your plastic surgery providers.
Injectable Dermal Fillers
Injectable gel dermal fillers can easily enhance your facial appearance yet leave you still looking like yourself. Dermal fillers work by filling in and smoothing out wrinkles and folds that such as the nasolabial folds (the parentheses along the side of your nose and mouth), the marionette lines, and other facial lines. There are several new techniques available today using fillers to lift the brow, lift the corners of the mouth, rejuvenate the hands, smooth scars, or even for the so called “liquid facelift”. At Clinic Labar, we will work with you on an individual basis to develop a treatment strategy to target specific areas that bother you. Some of these options may include Juvéderm™, Restylane®, Perlane® and Glytone.
Juvéderm™, Restylane®, and Perlane®
Juvéderm™, Restylane®, and Perlane®, are dermal fillers that consist of hyaluronic acid. In the human body natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin, and these dermal fillers have been modified slightly to last longer than the body’s own. These products do not contain animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction and therefore no skin test is required prior to treatment.
Botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic has received much publicity lately. It has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed. BOTOX® Cosmetic along with its popularity has surfaced many misconceptions about it. The reasons for its immense popularity are numerous. First, it is easy to perform, with just a little or no downtime. It is almost painless, quite effective, cost efficient and the risks are minimal.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is actually a neuromuscular toxin that inhibits the release of acetylcholine within the nerves. These nerves are located within the muscles that are injected. Without the release of acetylcholine muscles become paralyzed. This paralysis lasts 4 to 5 months. You start to notice it 2 to 3 days after injection.
Benefits
BOTOX® Cosmetic can dramatically improve all wrinkles that are caused by over active muscles. Most people, both men and women, over the age of 30 can benefit from BOTOX® Cosmetic, if performed correctly. This is not to say that all wrinkles can be removed with BOTOX® Cosmetic. Remember, BOTOX® Cosmetic only helps with wrinkles that are caused by over-active muscles. Static wrinkles, which are always present regardless of whether you’re smiling or not, or very fine wrinkles are not removed by BOTOX® Cosmetic. These wrinkles are caused by changes within the skin itself or are due to the aging changes of the skin and underlying fat. Correcting these wrinkles requires a thorough evaluation to determine the exact cause so that the most effective treatment is performed. This could involve Chemical Peeling, Laser Skin Resurfacing, Face Lifting with or without fat resuspension, Fat or Collagen Injection, Blepharoplasty, or Brow Lifting.
How can you tell if your wrinkles are caused by over-active muscles? This is definitively determined during your consultation with your doctor. But you can be reasonably sure that BOTOX® Cosmetic will help if the wrinkles are made worse with muscular movement i.e. smiling, elevating the eyebrows, or tightening the neck, etc.
The most effective areas for BOTOX® Cosmetic include the furrows of the forehead made worse when you elevate your eyebrow, and the crow’s feet area made worse during smiling. Other areas may also be helped such as neck banding, also known as turkey neck. BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be used in conjunction with other procedures.
BOTOX® Cosmetic benefits can be summarized as follows
- Very effective at reducing or eliminating dynamic wrinkles.
- Relatively painless.
- No anesthesia necessary.
- Great for crow’s feet, laugh lines and forehead wrinkles.
- No downtime.
- Relatively low-cost.
- Minimal risk.
- Reversible (this may be considered a disadvantage)
- Quick.
- Effectively delays the need for more invasive plastic surgery.
Possible complications
Significant complications with BOTOX® Cosmetic are rare but, of course, must be discussed. The most common complication is incomplete removal of the wrinkle. It is not realistic nor is it usually desirable to expect complete removal. Depending on location, complete removal of the wrinkle may lead to a look that is flat and without expression. The nice thing about BOTOX® Cosmetic is that with proper application in the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon it does a wonderful job of diminishing the wrinkles without creating an artificial look.
Another advantage of BOTOX® Cosmetic is that if the desired results are not achieved, a simple second injection can be performed. This is often a good way to start gradually.
Another potential complication called ptosis, which can rarely be seen when BOTOX® Cosmetic is found in the forehead region. Ptosis is a reversible problem where the eyelid droops for 4 to 6 weeks. It is caused when some of the BOTOX® Cosmetic diffuses into the muscles that elevate the eyelid. Dr. Labar has seen several patients with this problem who have been referred to him from other physicians. Fortunately, in experienced hands this problem is extremely rare.
It should be mentioned that Dr. Labar has used BOTOX® Cosmetic many times and it has proven itself to be extremely safe. In fact, he has it done to himself. Other problems associated with it are more of an annoyance the a complication. These include swelling, minor bruising, minor pain, and mild asymmetry.
Are you a good candidate?
As mentioned above, a good candidate is someone that has wrinkles that are caused by over-active muscles primarily of the forehead or around the eyes. Particularly good results are seen in patients who have deep furrows of the forehead giving them a mean look. These patients are often mistaken as being mad or unfriendly just because of their over-active forehead muscles.
Another group of patients that are particularly good candidates are those with wrinkles around the eyes and temporal area that worsen when smiling or when making facial gestures. When you think about it this is truly unfortunate. Here you are smiling, and feeling good about yourself when all of a sudden you look in the mirror and see someone who looks much older than you actually feel. There is no doubt that how you feel about yourself has a huge influence on how you feel in general. Fortunately, BOTOX® Cosmetic can go a long way in reducing these lines and making you look and feel younger.
Other wrinkles may be helped with BOTOX® Cosmetic as well. These include creases around the chin and mouth, excessive nasal flaring, and banding of the neck. During your consultation, Dr. Labar will determine if your particular problem can be treated effectively with BOTOX® Cosmetic .
Prior to BOTOX®
Before procedure
- Stop all aspirin containing products, medications that contain blood thinners ,vitamin E and herbal supplements 2 weeks prior to surgery.
- There is no problem with eating or smoking prior to having BOTOX® Cosmetic . Many people come in on their lunch break and go right back to work afterward.
Anesthesia
No anesthesia is necessary.
After the procedure
- Immediately after the injection you may feel a little funny or you may fill nothing at all. You can leave immediately and go back to work or your daily activities.
- Do not expect immediate results. Remember, BOTOX® Cosmetic takes about 2 to 3 days to start working. When it does take effect do not be concerned if you have a slight feeling that your face is not your own as this is normal. This feeling goes away quickly. By day 3 you will notice a marked improvement in your wrinkles. In fact, you will feel as if much of tension around your eyes or forehead has gone away. Many people who suffer from chronic headaches and migraines have significant relief after having BOTOX® Cosmetic . This improvement will remain for approximately 4 to 5 months.
- Most bruising (if it happens) will fade after the second week. After the first week much of the remaining discoloration can be concealed with a cream-based cosmetic.
- You may ice the injected area for about 15 minutes to help prevent bruising. Don’t put ice directly onto your skin.
Recovery time
The great thing about BOTOX® Cosmetic is that there is really no downtime. Often patients come in on their lunch break and go right back to work. Friends and co-workers will not notice any immediate changes. But do not doubt, the wrinkle improvement caused by BOTOX® Cosmetic is very dramatic by day
Dermal Fillers
JUVÉDERM® / RESTYLANE / GLYTONE
Many aspects within the field of plastic surgery are changing. One of the biggest changes is our understanding of what causes facial aging. First, we thought the process was mostly limited to skin and, therefore, most of the procedures were skin rearrangement procedures and tightening. Now, we know that aging actually involves all layers of the soft tissue within the face. We now know that facial aging is actually the result of fat loss and fat descent as well as skin and muscle laxity.
Regarding soft tissue fillers, what we are mostly concerned about, in terms of facial aging, is fat loss and fat descent as we get older. Once we believed that all wrinkles and skin excess were caused from skin stretching. Now, we know that many wrinkles, skin excess, as well as the general appearance of aging are caused by the volume loss of fat and soft tissue underneath the skin. Just like when you remove the volume (water) of a grape you are left with a wrinkled raisin. By injecting volume, many wrinkles can be eliminated or at least reduced.
Soft tissue fillers are growing dramatically as physicians find that many signs of aging can be improved by injecting volume. Ten years ago all we basically had was collagen. While collagen is still extremely useful for fine wrinkles it did not fill in larger areas and had several draw backs. One of the major draw backs was its longevity. It only lasts 2-3 months. Another draw back was that patients needed to be allergy tested 3 weeks before the injection.
With advancing technology these problems have been improved. The newer soft tissue fillers last longer and do not require allergy testing. How much longer? Which filler is best for what area? These two issues are what is exciting in this aspect of plastic surgery. This is what the bulk of this educational presentation is directed toward.
Are you a good candidate for Soft Tissue Fillers?
Aging is a progressive process causing us to wrinkle and to lose facial fat. Good candidates are simply people who have suffered the effects of aging and subsequent wrinkling. With the advancing properties of the soft tissue fillers, the effects of aging can be postponed. This can delay the need for surgical correction.
Not all wrinkles should be treated with a soft tissue filler. Wrinkles that occur with smiling or facial movement are best treated with Botox®.
The typical patient who will benefit from soft tissue fillers are those with:
- Forehead wrinkles
- Hollowing of the Temple
- Volume loss of the Brow and Upper lid. Soft tissue filling may delay the need for surgical correction here.
- Sunken crease underneath the lower lid
- Lower lid bags
- Loss of cheek fullness
- Deep crease above upper lip (naso-labial crease)
- Small lips
- Someone desiring more dramatic, sensual lips
- Marionette lines
- Depressed scars of the face
- Depressed acne scars
Prior to Soft Tissue Filler Injection
Before Procedure
Stop all aspirin containing products, medications that contain blood thinners .
The procedure itself will take about half an hour to an hour.
After Surgery
The amount of swelling and bruising depends on the amount and location of the injection. It is best to apply ice to the injected area.
What To Expect As You Recover
Post surgical swelling may temporarily cause the look of unevenness, skin changes, hard spots, and ridges.
Most bruising will fade after the second week. After the first week much of the remaining discoloration can be concealed with a cream-based cosmetic.
Remember not to put ice or anything hot directly onto skin because you may have decreased awareness of temperature damage.
Skin Peels

Chemical Peeling
Chemical peeling is a way of rejuvenating facial skin (sometimes arms and chest) by applying a chemical that essentially destroys the top layers of the skin. When the skin heals it does so by reforming collagen that is thicker, better vascularized and more youthful. It is most effective in treating sun damaged skin. It effectively eliminates or reduces age spots and skin discoloration. It also helps with fine wrinkles as well as improving skin texture. Chemical peeling is very effective in recapturing the healthy, glowing texture seen in youthful skin.
The most common chemical used for peeling is trichloroacetic acid or TCA. TCA is the most common chemical used for peeling because it combines safety with effectiveness better than other agents. There are other chemicals such as phenol and fruit acids, but they do not have the same combination of effectiveness and safety as TCA. They are, however, useful for certain skin problems.
Chemical peeling is particularly useful within the armamentarium of rejuvenation because it is very effective, does not need general anesthesia, and is relatively low-cost. Effectively, a chemical peel causes a controlled burn. Doctor can predict the depth of the burn so that it goes down to a certain depth within the skin but no further. The skin heals with collagen that is more abundant and youthful. Obviously, you need to make sure that whoever is performing this procedure has the proper credentials and is well-trained because too deep of a burn can result in serious scarring.
Normally, the entire face is peeled at once. This includes the eyelids, forehead, and onto the neck.
After your skin has peeled, your face is pink for 1 to 2 months depending on the depth of the peel. It is important that you stay out of the sun for at least 6 months. Exposure to sun may cause hyper-pigmentation and/or irritation of the face.
Chemical peeling is extremely useful both in facial rejuvenation and as part of an anti-aging protocol that can be repeated every 4 years after the age of 30.
Benefits
Chemical peeling has many benefits. Outlined below are the most notable;
- Very effective at removing age spots and skin discoloration.
- Treats fine wrinkles and skin irregularities.
- Improves texture of skin creating a more youthful, glowing skin.
- Improves skin texture and some scarring in patients with acne scars.
- Can be used on face, hands, arms, chest, and shoulders.
- Is relatively inexpensive.
- Can be done as an office procedure under local anesthesia.
- Depth of peel can be controlled to obtain the desired results.
- The most superficial of peels can be done as a “lunchtime” peel.
- Possible complications
Are you a good candidate?
People who could benefit most from chemical peeling are those with sun damaged skin. If you feel that your skin would be improved by any of the reasons mentioned above in the benefits section then you are a good candidate.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive sweating)

Excessive sweating due to hyperhidrosis forces men and women to change their clothes every few hours, limits personal style, ruins fabrics, and erodes self-confidence. Labar Clinic provides one of the best recommended treatment for excessive sweating (Botox Hyperhidrosis Treatment) at very competitive rates so you can stop sweating and start living.
We have experience in dealing with hyperhidrosis from the most common areas of the underarms, palms, forehead to even more complicated areas such as upper lip, nose, cheeks, feet.
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which produces a lot of unhappiness. An estimated 2-3% of westerners reported to suffer from excessive sweating of the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) or of the palms and soles of the feet (palmoplantar hyperhidrosis). Underarm problems tend to start in late adolescence, while palm and sole sweating often begins earlier, around the age 13 (on the average). Untreated, these problems may continue throughout life.
Excessive sweating is embarrassing, it stains clothes, ruins romance, and complicates business and social interactions. Severe cases excess sweat can have serious practical consequences as well, making it hard for people who suffer from it to hold a pen, grip a car steering wheel, or shake hands.
Unfortunately, topical and oral medications, iontophoresis, and surgery have not proven to be efficacious in the majority of patients. In fact surgery can result in compensatory excessive sweating in other parts of the body in about 30-40% of patients. This is not a known complication of hyperhidrosis treatment with botox injections. The Botox binds to the nerves that controls sweating in the skin, and reduces sweating in the area for 4-6 months without having compensatory effects. Clinical studies have shown that this treatment reduces the amount of sweating by 75 – 80% times. A course usually lasts 4-6 months. In order to ensure you obtain the best result Clinic Labar administer only Botox at strong therapeutic levels.
What is Botox and how does it work?
Botox is a very pure preparation of a protein, Botulinum toxin type A. When small doses are injected into the skin, Botox blocks the actions of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands; this prevents the glands from producing sweat. Botox blocks the nerve endings but over about 6-8 months new nerve endings grow to replace them. Hence, it works for sweating armpits to sweating forehead as the principle of how it cures xis the same.
What happens during treatment?
Using a very fine needle, a small amount of a solution of Botox sweat injections are placed in 10 to 15 places about 1.5 – 2 cm apart and spread evenly in each area. A course of botox excessive sweating treatment (hyperhidrosis) takes about a total of 30 minutes.
Does It Hurt?
Only minimally. Because the skin of the armpit is thin, Botox underarm sweating treatment there is barely felt. The needles used are extremely fine, and they themselves are not felt much but the Botox injection itself stings lightly. Botox injections in the palms are slightly more uncomfortable but tolerated by patients well.
How quickly does it work to stop sweating excessively and how long will the effects last?
You should notice some change for the better within a week of your treatment. Different people have different responses to treatment. In a clinical trials, sweat production was reduced by more than 90% in two weeks with botox hyperhidrosis treatment.
Is Botulinum Toxin Safe?
Yes, to put it quite simply. We only use botulinum toxins licensed in the EU.
Is Botulinum Toxin Not Expensive?
No, not when you consider the cost of frequent changes of clothing, deodorants etc. The cost of embarrassment and social phobia is also high.
The efficacy and patient satisfaction of Botox® for hyperhidrosis treatment is considered to be excellent. Until now, most treatments for excessive sweating were often ineffective, short acting or had significant risks. For those suffering from excessive sweating, Botox treatments give them new hope where previous therapies have failed before.
